As a Reiki Master one of the most interesting challenges I face is explaining just what Reiki is. Reiki is Universal Life Force energy The process and method that was introduced by Mikao Usui, a Buddhist Monk, is a form of Spiritual healing. Reiki is a spiritual practice and not a religion, anyone can practice Reiki regardless of their religious views. Reiki is a learning process, a methodology, that that is passed on by Reiki Masters through a series of Attunements and Empowerments to students primarily so that the student can treat themselves and then go on to treat others.
Reiki is used to balance a persons energy physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. When these elements are in balance you are in a position which allows you to enter a healthy state. It is believed that if Life Force Energy is not running freely due to blockages, physical, emotional, mental and spiritual imblances are created. It is these blockages that generate an unhealthy balance that may lead to disease or illness. The objective of Reiki is to promote the free flowing of Life Force Energy and thus creating a healthy balanced state. Unlike Western medicine Reiki looks to treat you as a whole, not by symptoms.
During a Reiki Session you will remain fully clothed and made to feel comfortable either lying down on a couch or sitting in a chair. The area will be calming very often with music playing, pleasant aromas and candles. The Practioner will first energise themselves using various symbols and hand gestures taught to them by a Reiki Master. Once energised the energy is transferred to you via the Practioners hands, stimulating your own Life Force Energy. The Practioner may work intuitively or use a set of hand positions. They may place their hands on the body or work above the body. Many people will feel heat, but this isnt always the case, the Reiki may be felt as vibrations, you may see colours in your minds eye or feel extreme cold; some people feel nothing at all. Whatever your experience it will be very pleasant and relaxing and right for you.
